Zenita Rooftop is the restaurant and bar planned for the new Aztec Hotel, San Antonio, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel, located inside the historic Aztec Theatre building at Commerce and St. Mary’s. Set above the River Walk, Zenita is expected to bring rooftop dining, cocktails, skyline views, and a Latin-Asian inspired menu to one of downtown’s most recognizable landmarks.

The setting is what makes this one special.

The Aztec Theatre opened in 1926, during the golden age of grand movie palaces. Its design was meant to feel like an escape, filled with dramatic columns, murals, sculptures, and details inspired by ancient Meso-American architecture. For generations, the Aztec was one of downtown’s most memorable entertainment venues.

Like many old theaters, it went through changes. It was later divided into multiple screens, closed for a time, and was eventually saved from demolition through preservation efforts. Today, the Aztec lives on as a live entertainment venue, while the upper floors are being transformed into a boutique hotel.

That is where Zenita enters the story.

More than just another rooftop bar, Zenita gives new life to the upper levels of a building San Antonians have admired for decades. It connects the city’s theater history, River Walk energy, and modern dining scene in one place.

If the concept delivers on its promise of bold food, polished cocktails, late-night energy, and 360 downtown views, Zenita could become a go-to spot for date nights, visitors, pre-show drinks, and locals looking for something that feels both new and unmistakably San Antonio.

The Aztec has always had a sense for drama. Zenita simply moves the show upstairs.
